Big Bang Theory join Team Ritter

This crossover is incredible in quite a number of ways.

Big Bang Theory join Team Ritter to raise funds for aortic health research

My friends over at the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health work tirelessly on raising awareness and funds for their research and they’re about to run the New York Marathon to raise funds. It’s fantastic to see The Big Bang Theory putting their support behind it and becoming part of the Ritter Crew

Kaley Cuoco starred in 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter together with John  Ritter before Big Bang. Simon Helberg and Jason Ritter were college room mates, and Jim Parsons has often and famously spoken of his admiration for John Ritter and the fact that John has been one of the greatest influences on him.

Three’s Company is my favourite sitcom in the world, followed by Big Bang Theory and I think it’s because of the influences of Three’s Company on Big Bang Theory.  I love this!!!

You can also become a Team Ritter support crew member! Here’s how:   For $15 you can purchase a shirt and all funds go directly to the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health. Then share your pic with us on social media using the hashtag #TeamRitter to help raise awareness and save lives. www.rittercrew2014.com

Where’s Sheldon Cooper? He’s here!

The Big Bang Theory ended Season 7 on a cliff hanger with Sheldon about to board a train and head off into the unknown.  This is kinda distressing for BBT fans as we’re not sure how well Sheldon can cope on his own.

However, I’m here to tell you that it’s all okay! The world has CCTV cameras, and we can see pretty well where Sheldon is.

He’s been photobombing at the Critics’ Choice Awards
He popped in at Home and got animated with Rihanna.
He got bullied about being married. (not to Ellen LOL).
His mother must be very disappointed by the amount of coffee – an addictive substance – that he is drinking! But he sure is getting around!
And clearly he has either alighted from the train or has invented something to make trains fly because he is currently at Wimbledon!
So you see fellow Sheldon Cooper fans, we have nothing to worry about! Sheldon’s fine and having fun!!
You’ll be pleased to know that The Big Bang Theory starts again on 22 September on CBS at 8pm with two episodes, where we’ll find out what Sheldon tells the writers that he’s been doing!
If you find out any more places he goes to, tweet them to us at @Popspeaking or comment here!

Help Kaley Cuoco Sweeting Save the Seals

Hey all!! Well, I’m in a bit of an emotional way tonight, and it’s too hard to allow myself to go to the place, even mentally, where seals are being killed by man for sport.

No… no, no!! Not today, not ever, should this be a reality!! But it is. I logged onto Twitter and saw a viral campaign taking place right under my eyes. Kaley Cuoco Sweeting’s campaigning against the commercial seal hunt in Canada, and she needs your help.

Enough is enough, really! Let’s stop this! I read the following quote by the genius Leonardo Da Vinci today:

“Truly man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds them. We live by the death of others. We are burial places! I have since an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men will look upon the murder of animals as they look upon the murder of man.”

Let’s make that time now!

Jim Parsons is Wheelchair Jimmy and he needs your help!

Hey all! As most of you know I’m a big fan of the show The Big Bang Theory. I have a Google Alert on the name ‘Jim Parsons’, one of the stars of the show. One my Google Alert results included a link which read “Jim Parsons Looks to Raise $50,000 via Indiegogo to Take WheelchairJimmy and His Accessibility Travel Website to the Next Level of Success

It intrigued me!

When I clicked it I realised that this WASN’T the Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory. But it didn’t matter because when I read about the cause I knew I wanted to chat to THIS Jim Parsons and see if I could bring a bit of exposure to what he is doing.

There are probably two things you need to know before you read further.

A) What is Wheelchair Jimmyand  B) What do they need?

What is Wheelchair Jimmy?

Wheelchair Jimmy is a travel advisory website, database, and YouTube Channel to make disabled travel more fun, accessible convenient and hassle free.
Jim Parsons is the founder of WheelchairJimmy.com. He created this unique travel advisory website to improve the quality of life, travel and leisure for millions of disabled persons in wheelchairs worldwide.

What do they need?

At this point, WheelchairJimmy has created the engine and processes, but they still need to build the content management platform, extend their digital technology initiatives including data driven interactivity, and add new cities. To accomplish these goals, and to become the most trusted name in accessible travel, they are relying on help, donations and support from the community.

Here’s an opportunity whereby you too can help make a difference! Please join them with your support and sponsorship! They need $50,000 to take WheelchairJimmy to the next level of success. Together we can make the world more fun and accessible!

So please go to Indiegogo, pick the level of your Support, select your Perk, then Share your support with your friends on email, Facebook, Twitter and Linked-in. And if  you cannot make a donation at this time, please repost and repost their message to your friends to help us get the word out.

Jim Parsons says: “Our goal right now is to raise $50,000 in order to computerize the content management and do a few other tech items in order to load properties faster and incorporate user feedback. We’ve completed the database for 8-9 cities and all of New Zealand, but we cannot add these cities to our website until we computerize the system and make it more efficient and “scaleable”.  Once we get 10-20 cities onto the website, I believe our momentum will build.”

Please watch the Youtube video to hear Jim’s indepth commentary about Wheelchair Jimmy and this request. (unlike Sheldon Cooper, he talks your language!)

I asked Jim, who is widely travelled, what the most wheelchair accessible city is.

“I haven’t come across the most accessible city yet. Cities with steep hills and old historic buildings are not atop my list. Phoenix does a nice job on accessibility. Chicago, LA and NYC have a way to go, especially with respect to mass transportation. Much of Europe is a challenge.”

And he says that having the same name as the TV Jim Parsons doesn’t really have much effect. Jim says BBT is a great show but it has a different audience.

I think the more we get Wheelchair Jimmy ‘out there’, the more random BBT Jim Parsons fans will come on and support, just like we have.

Knock Knock Knock … BBT! Knock Knock Knock… BBT! Knock Knock Knock… BBT!

My family and I have fallen hook line and sinker for The Big Bang Theory. So much so that our catch phrase right now is Bazinga! and we knock on doors, windows, whatever there is to knock on in the Sheldon Cooper style.

Knock knock knock Penny! Knock knock knock Leonard!

We ogle over Sheldon’s shirts and are toying with the idea (not really, as shipping is too expensive) of ordering a shirt or two from America. We have come to the conclusion that we are nerds, and geeks (yes, I know, many people will be surprised that it’s taken us this long to realise it).

The ball pit scene from Season 3 Episode 14 “The Einstein Approximation” had us laughing for days.

The Big Bang Theory stars Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting as Penny, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, Kunal Nayyar as Raj Koothrappali, Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, and Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler.

I love the show and I think one of the reasons is because I see influences of older shows portrayed in an up to date way.

I am very taken and impressed with Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting. I first saw her in 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter as one of the girls, and I thought that Bridget, the character she played, was rather obnoxious.

It was during the second season of that show that John Ritter passed away and the show never fully recovered, but you can see the influence of John Ritter in Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s acting now – which is probably another reason I like the show so much.

Kaley has matured as an actress in leaps and bounds.

Off the top of my head I am battling to think of another person who has been in two hit sitcoms within such short space of each other. Michael J Fox in Family Ties and Spin City comes to mind. Bea Arthur did it with Maude and The Golden Girls, Don Knotts did it with The Andy Griffiths Show and Three’s Company. This is a great array of names to be among. 8 Simple Rules ended in 2005, and The Big Bang Theory began in 2007. In between she also starred in the final season of Charmed. This is impressive!

The Big Bang Theory features ANOTHER star who has made his name in two sitcoms. Johnny Galecki starred in Roseanne as David Healy from 1992 – 1997. David Healy was the boyfriend of Roseanne’s daughter Darlene (played by Sara Gilbert, who has a recurring role in The Big Bang Theory, just to round things out). Johnny Galecki has mentioned that he learned a lot from Roseanne Barr, and I think that BBT has been the beneficiary of this experience.

Sheldon Cooper of course is the one character like no other. His T Shirts are a legend on their own and Sheldon Speak is one of the attractions of the show. Here’s an example: “
“At this point in our eco-system, you are akin to the plover, a small scavenging bird that eats extra food from between the teeth of crocodiles. Please, fly into our open maw and have at it.”

Actor Jim Parsons is said to have little understanding of most of what Sheldon Cooper actually says (much like the rest of us) but he has made Sheldon’s character human – a difficult task to do with a character who we know isn’t crazy – his mother had him tested! Jim Parsons is made for this role. I can’t see any other actor playing it successfully, and he is a large part of why BBT is as funny as it is. In me, Jim Parsons has a fan for life.

The characters of Howard, Raj, Amy and Bernadette are also very different and unique. Raj’s one liners often crack up a semi serious situation – eg “just because I have a small bladder doesn’t mean I can’t have a hot girlfriend!” The bromance with Howard and the jokiness the two girls bring out ensure a laugh a minute from a very funny show.

This show has recently been renewed for 3 more seasons and deservedly so. This is the epitome of how an ensemble cast should work.

I am desperately keen to obtain interviews with the stars – watch this space!!
